About This Event
We’re partnering with Extreme Fishing Events to bring you the Sasq’ets Classic: Heroes on the Water Fishing Derby! Compete for the heaviest trout/kokanee or walleye, with additional sidepots for smallmouth bass and sturgeon.
More than a day on the water, this derby supports a cause close to home. A portion of the proceeds will go toward helping those affected by the Spokane wildfires. In honor of our heroes and community, veterans, first responders, and Spokane Tribe elders can participate for free (heroes still need to register). Kid's (15 and under) also fish for free courtesy of Mack's Lure.
Join us for a great day of fishing, community, and giving back!

Redband Trout
Redband trout are native rainbow trout found in the Columbia River Basin and must be released immediately. They are not eligible for weigh-in or prizes in the Sasq’ets Classic. If you’re unsure whether a trout is a redband, release it.
Handle released fish carefully by keeping them wet, minimizing air exposure, and supporting their bodies properly.
For identification tips, safe handling guidelines, and fishing regulations, visit the official Redband Trout guide.

Derby Rules & Scoring
WDFW rules are derby rules
To keep an even playing field, every WDFW bag limit and retention rule for each species is a derby rule, for every angler. That holds no matter which license you fish under. A fish kept over the limit, or one WDFW doesn’t let you keep, won’t be weighed in.
Redband trout must be released. You can’t keep one, and they can’t be weighed in.
Derby boundaries
From the Spokane Arm to Little Falls Dam, north to the Kettle Falls bridge, and west to the Grand Coulee Dam
Scoring
- This is a weigh-in derby. Keep the fish you want to enter and bring it to the scales at Two Rivers Marina. Photos and released fish don’t count.
- Fish must be caught during the posted fishing hours on a derby day.
- You must be in line at the scales with your fish before weigh-in closes. No exceptions.
- Weight decides every board. The heaviest fish takes the top spot.
- On a tie, the longer fish wins. If they also match on length, the prize money is split.
- Trout / Kokanee and Walleye are each scored on their own board. A kokanee counts as a trout and is weighed and scored the same way.
- Smallmouth Bass and Sturgeon are optional sidepots, one winner each. Largemouth bass don’t qualify.
- Youth and adults are scored separately in every division and sidepot.
